The Transit Equity Network is a national coalition of riders, transit workers, climate organizers, and planners. We center worker and community voices as the leaders in the fight for just, sustainable, and fully-funded public transportation.
Our Story
The Transit Equity Network started as a way to bridge the gap between organized labor and environmental justice. Today, we still empower voices around the country to demand more equitable transit. Public transit is essential infrastructure — like roads, bridges, tunnels, and utilities — crucial to the economic, social, and environmental well-being of every region. Defending and expanding it is climate work, labor work, and democracy work, all at once.
Our mission is simple: Strengthen worker-rider alliances to expand public transit investment and ensure equitable access for every community.
Meet The Team
Bakari Height is a dedicated advocate for public transportation, equity, and workers' rights. Hailing from Georgia, Bakari has made it his mission to strengthen alliances between riders, transit workers, and community organizers across the United States. With deep roots in organizing and urban planning, Bakari brings a people-first approach to every initiative, ensuring that the voices of underserved communities are centered in the fight for safe, equitable, reliable, and fully-funded public transportation. He has a Master's Degree in City Planning from Georgia Tech, and has worked for many organizations such as Coca-Cola, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Atlanta BeltLine Inc., Philly Transit Riders Union, and is the co-founder of the MARTA Army in Atlanta.
